helping business thrive in golden bc

Tourism & Recreation

Golden, BC has a very diverse and vibrant tourism business community, which extends widely throughout Kicking Horse Country covering Donald, Blaeberry, Golden, Nicholson, Field and Parson.

In years past the three largest commerce employers were CP Rail, Louisiana Pacific, and the forest industry. Though we have always been a mecca for back country ski enthusiast, it wasn’t until the locally owned Whitetooth Ski Hill was purchased in 2000 that Golden became a tourism destination.

KHMR - Grizzly Bear Refuge
The Kicking Horse Mountain Resort purchased the locally owned Whitetooth Ski Hill in 2000 and now boasts it is the fourth highest vertical drop in North America and host of the highest restaurant in Canada.

The Kicking Horse Mountain Resort offers a gondola, 3 chair lifts, 1 surface lift, various restaurants, a day lodge, hotels, lodges and residential homes. It is now a four season mountain resort with downhill skiing & biking, snow activities, hiking, and a Grizzly Bear Refuge. The Kicking Horse Mountain Resort employs 300 people and has become one of the main tourism attractions of Golden. KHMR was the nominee and winners of the Kicking Horse Country Chamber of Commerce’s Business Enterprise Award, Customer Excellence Award and the Business of the Year Award in 2010.
