Critical Labour Shortage

Help wanted sign

Golden businesses are experiencing a critical shortage of labour. As a result, member businesses are unable to operate at full capacity, impacting revenue generation, business expansion and succession planning.

On June, 26th, 2018 the Kicking Horse Country Chamber of Commerce met with several community stakeholders and MLA, Doug Clovechok to discuss potential solutions in mitigating the situation. We also met with the Provincial Small Business Task Force to further communicate our concerns and recommendations.

In July, 2018 the Chamber wrote to both the Columbia Shuswap Regional District and the Town of Golden, asking that they join us in lobbying at the provincial and federal levels for a review of the Temporary Foreign Workers Program and Provincial Nominee Scheme - Advocacy Letter to ToG & CSRD.

The Chamber believes its power to influence policy stems from the local level, where engaged businesses participate and provide insight and feedback. We are encouraging business owners to share with us their personal experiences with labour shortages. The insight businesses provide will help strengthen our advocacy efforts. All feedback will be treated in strict confidence, while ensuring the message is clear and the voice of business is heard.
