Indigenous Peoples

Golden and the surrounding area are located on the Home Lands of the Ktunaxa Nation. The Secwepemc People also traveled the region harvesting, hunting and settling seasonally where we now work and play.

The Metis Nation Columbia River Society also calls Golden home.

The legacy of these nations has made Golden what it is today. Learn more about each of these peoples and their histories.

The Ktunaxa Nation have recently developed a business directory and detailed information describing how to work with Ktunaxa owned and operated businesses. Take a look below.
The First Nations Peoples were here long before Canada was founded and while there are many heart-warming stories of settlers and First Nations working together and trading there have been many injustices enacted on the First Nations People.

The Kicking Horse Country Chamber of Commerce is committed to educating our community and finding ways to support First Nations Businesses.

While we cannot rewrite history, we can educate ourselves on the past and listen to the asks of our Indigenous Neighbours.
